Are there large-scale fishing operations in inland freshwater bodies?
worldpeace asked:
From what I gather, the fishing industry is mostly focused on salt water bodies: oceans, seas, bays, gulfs, etc.
I know there are freshwater fish, and that recreational fishing is popular in freshwater lakes, rivers, and streams.
My question is: are there any large-scale commercial/industrial fishing operations in inland freshwater bodies of water like rivers, streams, and lakes? Not necessarily even “large scale”, but also just plain commercial fisherman. If so, please provide some examples. Examples from places other than the United States are also welcome. Thanks.

yes-there is a large market for many fresh water fish-also trout and catfish and shrimp(freshwater not salt)are farm raised
There is commercial fishing in “Mill Lacs Lake”, MN(the indians have rights to gill-net for Walleye, Sunfish, Northerns ETC).
There are TONS of Catfish farms and Salmon farms all over the world.
There are large scale inland commercial fishing operations. I’m not counting fish farms. I take it from your question that you are talking about commercial fishing in public waters. However only certain fish may be taken by these commercial fisherman unless there are special cercumstances such as overpopulation. For example in arkansas they can not take gamefish. This would be like largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie. They could only take catfish and ruff fish. Does this help?
Probably, in the great lakes.
I’m sorry, I don’t know.
I have no clue. You got me there
Fresh water sources are not large enough to sustain “fishing” of the commercial type done in oceans. Most fresh water commerical fish supplies are from “farms”.
