My favorite fish is the Lemon Tetra. They look rather plain in the sales tank, but after they mature they are beautiful!
They aren’t too nippy and are just pleasant to watch.
My second favorite fish is the German Blue Ram. They should only be placed in a well established tank.
They are one of the only peaceful ciclids (sp?) along with being very colorful.
I think Id prefer a siamese fighting fish, but as they are about ten dollars each, maybe you’d prefer a goldfish or a black moor, as they are cheaper and live quite a while, compared to other fish. I have some of those and they ate my siamese fighting fish ?:( so maybe its better if you dont put them in the same tank if you do get some.
My favorite freshwater fish would be a fancy guppy. Its because they are cheap in price and they are fun to look at. Its really easy to take care of them.
I love cherry barbs. Cherries are a bright red color and live in groups of five or more. They are hardy, social, and zoom around the aquarium. To help with algae control, I adore otos. They are cuter than other larger options (say, a 3′ long plecostomus) and are also very active. Other livebearers suchas platies and guppies are also good beginer fish. Depending on the size of your tank, you might want a dwarf gourami and a small school.
I’d recommend that you get a 20gallon to start out. It’s big enough to hold what I recommended, and shows really well if you have friends over.
