sure as long as they are not coral, because coral actually is calcified and not rock, therefore it would slowly dissolve in a freshwater tank.
Wash them really well (not with soap) and they should be fine.
What I normally do is clean the very good and then boil them for at least 10 mins in water (no soap etc..)
This will kill all the bacteria that might be nested in the stones. Let them cool completely and it should be fine…
So far never had a problem doing this (+/- 8 years)
Yeah just make sure that you boil them to get all the unwanted bacteria and micro-organisms off of the rocks before you put them inside of your tank.
it could change the hardness of the water and might slowly change the ph as well, especially if it is coral. Not sure what kind of fish you have. If they are really sensitive to changes in their water then you might want to reconsider putting it in the tank
If it actually is dead coral, I would NOT put them in a Freshwater tank.
They WILL raise your ph too high.
I use it to raise and maintain my ph to 8.2 in my SALTWATER tanks.
Boiling rocks can actually be dangerous. They have been known to explode. You can make sure the rock is inert by pouring vinegar on it. If it bubbles do not use it. To disinfect the rock either pour alcohol on it or pour boiling water on it do not boil the rock. You could kill yourself or ruin your kitchen.
